Thursday Update

Yesterday I was wrong about the school Thomas is going to be at in New York. I can't find a picture of the one he is really going to be at because I am not sure about the name of it. Yesterday after work I decided to mow the front yard. When I was all done, Doug and I were out by the gargae talking about roofing the house and other things we need to do to the house. While we were talking the neighbor lady from across the street came over and gave us a couple of pictures that she had taken of our trees in the front yard. This was a little odd because we had never talked to her before. We found out that Doug had actually gone to school with a couple of her children at Linn Mar. Lost was very good last night with a very surprise ending. Just when you think the right thing is going to happen and certain people are happy, everything gets turned upside down. I think they are all going to end up killing each other until no one is left.

Wednesday Update

It's Wednesday and that means bagels at work. It also means two days until my three day weekend and Thomas' trip to New York City. Thomas said one of the first things they learned in his new class was how to read the subway maps. Last night we had fried chicken with hash browns and gravy for supper. It was very yummy. I wonder if Elliot will be voted off of Idol tonight. Lost should be good tonight, it is a new episode. Thats all for today, it's time to get ready for work.

Tuesday Update

Not much has happened since yesterday's update. I totally spaced off going to Ashley's last school conference. I was a little upset with myself, I have hardly missed any of the kid's conferences while they were growing up and I miss the very last one. Doug is going to call the school and see if we can meet with some of the teachers on Friday because I have the day off.

Monday Update

I have survived the weekend of rain and gloomy skies. Yesterday Doug decided we needed to purchase a full spectrum lightbulb, so we could at least get some sunshine that way. It seemed to start working as soon as we turned it on. I had hoped to get out in the yard and garden this weekend to clean up, but it was too wet and muddy out. Maybe next weekend. I will have this coming Friday off because we will be taking Thomas to the airport on Friday for his flight to New York. I am very excited for him. But I can't help being a little nervous as well. Gee, imagine that, me being nervous about something. I know he will be just fine and have a wonderful time in New York.

Thomas now has his new car, '95 Toyota Camry. Very nice looking car. We also survived the whole insurance mixup this weekend. We thought we could leave him on my insurance, but because this car is in his name he had to get his own policy. I guess I have to face it the kids are growing up. Ashley will be using Thomas' old car Scout for a while, until she finds her own car or decides to buy Scout from Thomas. Well, no time to write more, I have to get ready for work.

Friday Update

Today is Friday, Thomas found his new car and I only work a half day today. How awesome is that? I took the morning off from work to help get things taken care of with the new car. I can't wait to see it.

Ashley was excited this morning. Her new friend Britney from Minnesota contacted her by email and said she would be visiting Cornell today and would be free to do something after 1:30 this afternoon. Ashley is hoping she might be able to see her today.

Last night we all went to Squaw Creek Park and Doug gave us lessons for driving a manual transmission car. I remembered way more than I thought I would. I actually surprised myself and I think Doug was a little proud of me. Thomas is starting to get the hang of it and Ashley did very well. Starting from a stopped position is tricky. We also saw lots of wild life while in the park. Turkeys, a pheasant, a duck, a racoon and three deer.

Tuesday Update

Yesterday the blogger was acting up and I thought my update was not posted. Today when I went to my blog the Monday update was there three times. So if you saw may blog yesterday, I really wasn't being that crazy.

Yesterday work started out slow and ended up being very busy after lunch. I hope we will be busy again today because it is really hard to stretch about an hours worth of work into eight hours. Last night we had ham, onion, spinach and cheese quiche for supper. It was some of the best quiche I have ever had. TV was pretty boring last night, but Mondays usually are. Anthony Bourdain: No Resevations was good though. Tony was in Sweden.

Something is bothering Mao this morning. He has run through the room a couple of times making his yowling sound. Although he is calm right now. He has curled up on Ashley's old computer chair and has his eyes closed.

Monday Update

It's Monday morning and I don't have a lot to say. The weekend went by too fast. Last night was tons of fun. The stir fry was wonderful even if it was a lot of work. I feel tired and icky this morning and wish I could go back to bed instead of going to work.

Sunday Update

This weekend is going by way too fast. Yesterday I went with Ashley to her hair appointment at Follicles, it was a blast watching her hair get put up on her head. And I"m sure it will be so much fun when we take it down. Ron used about a can of hair spray and he said, "Don't say I didn't tell you there would be tears. No pain, no gain." Her hair turned out beautiful for prom. When we got home around 2:00 Sam was already here to pick her up. They went to school to have pictures taken and then grand march was at 4. Thomas and I went to watch grand march. We were going to take pictures of Sam and Ashley in the gym after the march. However, while we were waiting for it to end, Ashley called and said, "Hi Mom, I'm already at home changing my clothes to go out to eat." No pictures were taken in the gym. She was already gone when we got home. After they ate at the Red Lantern she came home to get back into her dress and go to the dance. At 11 the dance was over and Ashley made one more appearance at home to change her clothes to go to post prom at the Marion YMCA.

Chloe had a busy evening as well. It was the final day for the Xavier play and then she went to the cast party afterwards. She was home earlier than we expect though. Thomas went to see Ice Age II with Diedre. Doug and I just stayed at home and didn't do much other than stay up to wait for kids. Ashley got home about 5:15 this moring and went straight to bed. She said post prom is very boring and they would have left early except they didn't want the parents woken up by a phone call and they wanted to see if they won a prize.

Today we will be busy cleaning house and preparing veggies and stuff for the stir fry this evening.

Friday Update

It seems Friday got here rather quickly this week, even though while at work some of the days seemed long. TV was very boring last night, nothing but reruns. We did have some very good twice baked potatoes for supper though. I hope the weather is nice this weekend. I need to get out in the yard and finish clearing sticks and leaves.

Thursday Update

I dislike Mediacom intensely right now. The Internet has been down this morning more than it has been working. It looks like I'm not the only one complaining. It is a wonder that I was able to update my blog at all this morning.

I am glad today is Thursday. It means the work week is almost over. I am sure Thomas will be glad when the weekend comes. It will mean that all of his tests are done. Ashley is looking forward to the weekend because of Prom. She will be beautiful in her Prom dress. Today my supervisor will be out for a vacation day. This means more responsibilities for me. I will be running some reports that she usually does and sending orders to the warehouse for processing.

The Internet is down again, so I don't know if this is even going to get posted this morning. AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday Update

Not much to write about today. Thomas has to go back to Wartburg to take some tests on Thursday and Friday. And then he will be back home for about another week. Ashley is waiting for this weekend because Prom is on Saturday.

Monday Update

We had a very nice Easter supper. All of the kids showed up, including the elusive Chloe. Diedre was also here for supper. Diedre brought a pink champagne, because she likes pink. She also brought a bottle of Black Swan Cabernet Sauvignon. We all agreed the champagne was enough and we would save the other bottle for another day. On the menu was pork roast (very tender), Dr Pepper ham (apparently one of Diedre's sister Laura's favorites), green bean casserole (thanks Thomas), mashed potatoes (thanks Ashley), gravy, dinner rolls and for dessert, lemon mousse. Thanks Doug for all of your yummy additions to the meal. Everyone was stuffed after supper and we split to two different rooms. The kids headed to the day kitchen to watch an episode of Gray's Anatomy and Doug and I went to the living room to watch Extreme Home make over and The Soprano's. Sam stopped over at about 7:30 and at 8:00, Ashley and Sam kicked the other kids out of the day kitchen so they could watch a movie. Thomas and Diedre watched The Sopranos with us. Chloe had to leave at 8:00. It was an early night for me, I went to bed around 9:30.

Easter in Norway

In Norway, in addition to skiing in the mountains and painting eggs for decorating, it is tradition to solve murders at Easter. All the major television channels show crime and detective stories (such as Poirot), magazines print stories where the readers can try to figure out who did it, and many new books are published. Even the milk cartons change to have murder stories on their sides. Another tradition is Yahtzee games. Sweden's traditions include egg painting/gathering and candy; additionally, (fake) feathers and little decorations are placed on branches in a vase. For lunch/dinner on Holy Saturday, families traditionally feast on a smorgasbord of herring, salmon, potatoes, eggs and other kinds of food.

Yesterday I found out that disc golfing is actually a lot of fun. I would not want to play if a lot of people were in the park, because my frisbee throwing skills are embarassing.

Saturday Update

Wow, I almost thought today was Sunday. But wait, I have a four day weekend. Although one day is now officially over it was fun though. I got up at went to Thomas park with Tommy and played a little disc golf. I really sucked most of the time, but it was fun and good exercise going up and down the hills. My feet got wet from the dew, the discs kept getting dirty and I saw a really cool bug that I had never seen before. Good times.....

After we got home we had lunch and I did the dishes. Then Ashley got home from school early because she had a half day for Good Friday. She wanted to go to Target to purchase a fan for her room. So the kids and I went to Target and then to Gordmans. That store is still busy. While we waited for Ashley to choose some flip-flops and try on some shirts, Thomas and I looked at every square inch of the store. We saw cookies like we get at Ikea, found the rest rooms, had a pillow fight, decided the clothing for guys was no great deal, saw lots of bad things to hang on your wall and trinkets for your house that should not be allowed to be sold. Smelling the candles was the best part. After leaving Gordmans we stopped at Walgreens, Family Video and got gas in the van at Handi Mart. We found out that Chloe had stopped by in her new white Honda Civic while we were gone. We should get to see her for awhile today. That will be very nice because we have not seen her for about three weeks. I hope she will give us a ride in her new car. Maybe to Squaw Creek Park, so we can get some graduation pictures of her.

Last night Ashley went to a movie with Sam and ate at his house. She missed out on a delicious meal of chicken fried steak, eggs and gravy. We watched bad TV most of the night and Thomas left to go hick dancing with Diedre, her sister Laura and friends. I went to bad at around 11.

I have no big plans for today, but thats the way time off should be.

Thursday Update

Yeah!!! I could do my happy dance today, because it is my last day of work this week. I took the day off on Friday and next Monday for a long weekend. I hope the weather is going to be nice. I have some work I would like to get done in the yard and I want to spend some time hanging out with the kids watching movies or something.

Yesterday went fairly quickly at work. However, we found out that our department manager, who has worked for the company for 17 years, has turned in her resignation. She is quiting to work with her husband in his carpet laying business. Scout is being real cranky for Thomas, I hope everything goes better today. I can't wait for these next few days to go by. I have a long weekend coming up. I have taken Friday and Monday off for vacation to spend some time with the kids on Easter break. Last night I was so tired, I could hardly stay awake towards the end of Jeremy Piven's Journey of a Lifetime. I went to bed at 9 and feel much better for it this morning.

Monday Update

This weekend was good. Ashley worked 11-6 on Saturday, so I spent the day doing laundry and washing dishes. Then at around 5 Thomas came home for an overnight visit. It was nice to have a meal with him and sit and chat. The time went rather quickly. Unfortunately he had to work on Sunday so he drove back in the morning. When he got to work we got a call from him that Scout was acting up. Unfortunately he is finding out the hard way what happens when you add too much oil to your car. I hope there is not too much damage and he can get Scout back on the road at least for a little bit longer. Yesterday the pulled pork was delicious, along with the food that everyone else brought. It was nice to have a full house and it was good to see Jamie, Lauren and Justin again.

The cat's diary:

Day 183 of my captivity. My captors continued to taunt me
with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly
on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The
only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and
the mild satisfaction I get from clawing the furniture.
Tomorrow I may eat another house plant. Today my attempt
to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while
they were walking almost succeeded - must try this at the
top of the stairs.

In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors,
I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite
chair - must try this on their bed, (or car.....)

Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body in
an attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of,
and to try to strike fear in their hearts. They only cooed
and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm,
not working according to plan.

There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I
was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I
could hear the noise and smell the food. More important,
I overheard that my confinement was due to my powers of
inducing "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to
use it to my advantage.

I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe
snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more
than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The
bird, on the other hand, has got to be an informant and
speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my
every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room,
his safety is assured.

But I can wait; it is only a matter of time.

Saturday Update

This morning I have mostly been looking at blogs. It is always interesting to read about what other people are doing and thinking. Thomas called this morning while he was waiting for the doors to be unlocked at Home Depot for the employees to come in. He said he went out this morning to get his car and when he went back to the dorm to get his laundry and things, he could not get the security lock to open. He is not sure if they changed the code or if he was just not awake enough to get it right. He had to wake someone up to get back inside. Last night we watched The Boondock Saints. It is a hard movie to explain, but definately a movie you should see. It gets better and better as you watch. I just found out that Deadwood will be back in June. I can't wait.

Ah yes it is Spring. rain, storms, tornados, floods, warmer weather and best of all the flowers are starting to bloom. We have yellow and purple Crocus and both big and small Daffodils blooming . We are all looking forward to Thomas' visit tomorrow. Mao needs a good long run through the house chasing Thomas.

Lost was freaky last night. Is it really an island. Or is it hell or just all in Hurley's imagination? Definately one of my favorite shows right now. OK Thomas, I will give one episode of Grey's Anatomy a try while you are home.

We are once again entering orders at work. At least for a little while we won't be twiddling our thumbs. Last night we ate nachos and soft tacos. I took too many nachos though. I think most of the people on American Idol are singing worse instead of better. This might just be the last season that we watch it. Scrubs is still a really good show. Lost should be good tonight, we are going to get to see a little bit more of Hurley. I like his character. Yesterday was so nice, I hope we get to see more of the same today.

Tuesday Update

Not much happened yesterday. We are playing the waiting game at work. Friday was the end of our first quarter for sales. Now finance has to do whatever they do before we can start entering orders for the second quarter. So all we can do is prep the orders that are coming in. That is we check the SKU's for the items ordered to make sure they are correct and look over the customer account for correct address, contact information, state tax exempt #, etc. When I got home yesterday, Ashley had washed the dishes from Sunday and she was making peanut butter cookies. The cookies are delicious. For supper we had a simple salad with chunks of chicken and leftover sloppy joe's. We watch Find, I don't remember the show after Find, Jeremy Pivens's Journey of a Lifetime and then Anthony Bourdain No Reservations. Then we went to bed, yah we are exciting people.

Sunday Update

Cool and gloomy, how depressing. I wish the sun would come out. This weekend we have been watching good movies. Friday night we watched Goodnight and Good Luck. Very well done. We made homemade pizzas and they were very good. Last night we watched Batman Begins and Walk the Line. For supper we had omelets with ham, onion and cheese. Very tasty. Before we watched the second movie I asked Doug to make me popcorn. He made the best buttery popcorn and I hurt myself a bit eating it. Yesterday Ashley and I tried checking out the new Gordmans. It looks like the prices are reasonable and they have lots of name brands to choose from. The store was just way too crowded to even get through most of the isles and we gave up and left. We need to go back after the store newness wears off a bit.

Friday Update

I just want to say how proud I am of our kids for all of thier hard work at school. I wish I would have tried as hard as they do and I wish I would have actually had faith in myself when I was thier age. School and growing up is hard, but the hard work will be worth it someday. The struggling you do today will get you much farther than the struggling I did.

Tuesday Update

This past weekend was a good one for me. On Friday night I did my grocery shopping because I wanted to do my usual Sunday cleaning on Saturday instead. On Saturday, guess what, I cleaned house. Saturday night we made Focaccia Bread. It was more like pizza though. Very yummy pizza! With the leftover dough, Doug made bread sticks for Sunday dinner. He needs to make bread sticks more often, they were delicious. Sunday morning Ashley and I went to Cornell College for a day long visit. It was a nice day just a little windy. I cannot say how many times I walked up and down hills, Cornell has a beautiful, but hilly campus. Ashley and I could not help but notice how happy and fat all of the squirrels were. We sat in on three different sessions in the morning. The first was Art in McWethy Hall. The next was English, Religion and Philosophy in South Hall. The last was about student residence life in The Commons. We had a nice lunch of Caesar Salad, Chicken Alfredo, bread sticks, grapes and strawberries. Lemonade was the drink. For dessert they served a shortcake with berries and whipped topping. After lunch the Choir sang in King Chapel and then there were some speakers from the College. Then we went to the Small Multi-Sports Arena for the Activities Fair. Ashley signed up for a lot of different activities; yearbook, newspaper, ballroom dancing, Not Just for Grannies (knitting???), culinary, and many more that I cannot remember. Of course she just wanted to sign up to get info, getting involve in all of these groups sounds like a full time job to me. The last thing we did was a tour of the dorms. It was a short tour and we only looked inside of a couple of rooms and saw the lounges. Pauley-Rorem looked like the most inviting dorm for a first year student. Well this is longer than I had expected and I have to get ready for work. Later.....
