Thursday Update

Yesterday was very good. At lunch time I called home, I talked with Doug and found out what had been happening around home. Then about 5 minutes after I had hung up Doug called me back and said my prize from the Doritos Gone Digital contest had finally arrived. I was so excited, I could hardly wait to go home. After a very slow afternoon, my supervisor said I could go home an hour early. We get on an early out list if our sales for the day before are at a certain percent to the total number of calls we took.

Needless to say when I got home from work Doug showed me how to use my new MP3 player and I had fun listening to it while I drove to the bread store and then again when Chloe and I went to pick up Ashley from work.

The inlaws called last night and said their drive down here may be delayed because the transmission on the van they are borrowing is having problems. They needed Doug to look up some things online, because the place they took it to did not know what they were doing. Not a good sign when you are getting car work done.

Wednesday Update

Yesterday started very slow at work. After writing about 20 emails, I was given a very boring spread sheet to work on. Those of us working on spread sheets just about feel asleep on the job.

Chloe had Laura over for supper last night and then they decided she would spend the night. We had a very good supper. Chuck steak slow cooked in the roaster all day, with mashed potatoes (the best Laura has ever had), gravy, corn and bread. It was all very yummy.

It rained Monday night and Tuesday morning, so I did not have to water the garden last night. However, Ashley did go out yesterday and weeded some of the garden. Thanks Ashley.

Thats all I have for now. It is getting late and I need to get ready for work.

Sunday Update

Yesterday was very quiet around here. Ashley spent Friday night with Keely and left around 8:30 to Adveture Land. Chloe got up early and went on her walk. I took a shower and she was already gone with Jim to go to pick her cousin up at camp when I got out. I think Mao was trying to tell me that she left, because he was meowing frantically outside of the bathroom. Thomas went to work at 11 and did not get off until 8.

I fertilized the garden in the morning and then went shopping for Jacob's birthday gift at Barnes & Noble. After that I came home and watched some TV with Doug and then we went to Sam's to get the chicken wings for today. We had supper when Thomas got home. The cheap boxed scalloped potatoes aren't bad when you add ham and extra cheese. After supper, Thomas treated us to Wendy's Frosties. Tasty and cold. Thanks Thomas!

Wednesday Update

Correction to yesterdays update. Thomas did not actually go to the airport. Doug saw these people standing around holding signs. One of them turned around and Doug saw it said "Welcome Home Ryne" and he called Thomas to see if he wanted to talk to Ryne on the phone. Thomas said yes. So Doug walks up to Ryne and says, "Ryne, someone wants to talk to you." Ryne wasn't even sure who Doug was.

So yesterday while walking from the 4th Ave. parkade to work, a crazy lady talking on her cell phone tried to run me down in the street. I was crossing 3rd Ave. and was almost to the other side of the street, when she came barreling around the corner not watching where she was going. Her car came inches from hitting me. If I had not jumped out of the way, she would have hit me for sure. Sorry, this is the last time I will tell the story.

Today we have insurance benefits meetings. It's always fun to learn the ways they plan to screw us on our benefits.

Last night after supper, Thomas, Ashley and I went to Thomas Park. The kids played frisbee golf and I walked the trails. I walked beyond the 1 1/2 mile marker and back. Ashley should have been with me with her camera. She would have liked to take a picture of the seven bunnies that I saw all in the same grassy area. Tuesday Update

Yesterday was very slow at work. We started running out of emails about 12:30. I found out lots of drama was happening at home over lunch, so I kind of dreaded coming home. But I came home anyway to find the drama was even more than I had bargained for. Enough about drama.

Doug left to pick up Brian at the airport around 8:30 only to find out his plane had been delayed. I'm not sure when he finally flew in, but I guess Doug had called Thomas to come out to the airport and it turned out that his friend Ryne was arriving back from Germany at the same time.

Monday Update

Yesterday was a good day. It was pretty relaxing. I watered the garden and then helped Doug wipe off the grill before putting his new grill cover over it. He got the grill cover for Father's Day from Thomas. The girls got him a nice grill accessories set in a molded case. He said, "You cannot go wrong with anything that comes in one of those molded cases."

The meal Doug cooked on the grill was very good. The meat was a little tough. But that was because we were all hungry and rushed his cooking a bit. We had beef ribs in his special marinade. macaroni/peas salad, lettuce salad and corn. Ashley had to work during supper time so she did not get to sit down with us.

Well back to the old humdrum of work today. I'm not excited, can you tell?

Four Wartburg athletic programs made it to the spring NCAA National Championships, and each team posted its best-ever national finish. The women’s track and field team won the college's first National Championship in any women's team sport on home turf as Wartburg hosted the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 26-28. The men's team placed seventh in the same meet. The women's golf team, in its first trip to nationals, placed seventh at the championship meet hosted by Methodist College in Fayetteville, N.C. Thursday Update

Last night we had an awesome supper cooked on the grill by Doug, of course! We had grilled kelbasa with grill fried shredded cabbage and Fuji apples. Yummy, yummy!!

After supper and washing dishes, with two very hyper and noisey girls, I sat down to watch TV with Doug. The only problem was that I developed a rather nasty headache and was half awake on the couch the rest of the night. I think we watched a show about the Cape Cod Canal and the there was a show where they made over a big truck for Raiders fans.

This morning I turned my alarm off and layed there for a bit like I usually do. Except today I fell back asleep until 5:27. I usually only lay there partially awake until 5:00. What this all means is that I don't have time to really update the blog much this morning, so this is all you get.

Monday Update

Here it is Monday again. Everyone will be back to work or drivers training. Mondays are the hardest, because the weekend always goes so quickly and you don't want it to end.

Yesterday was good, the only person that did not show up was Johnny. It was nice to see Megan and BJ again. Although I actually didn't see that much of them, because I stayed outside with most of the guests. The food was very good. We have to get Wands's recipe for the broccoli-cauliflower salad. The strawberry shortcake was extra nummy.

Sunday Update

I did not get a chance to update yesterday, because we had to leave early to take Ashley to Iowa City for her ACT test. She said the worst part was the science. She didn't understand much of it. Doug and I had to set in the downtown parkade for about 4 hours. he read the Frank Zappa book and got a few good laughs and I started reading the Douglas Adams biography. We did get out to stretch our legs and take a walk for awhile. Doug said all of his favorite places are all gone now. We went into the mall and it was a sad state, the whole upstairs was empty except for a small movie theater and some gumball machines. We each had a slice of pizza from Sbarros. It was not the best pzza I ever had and it was rather pricey.

When we got back to town we picked up Scout (Thomas' car). The brakes are now safe and he just needs to get the struts fixed next. He will practically have a new car, except for the body. He and Doug plan to do some body work on both their cars this year.

The rest of the day was pretty busy as well. Once we got home, Ashley and I went to the bread store to get buns and shortcakes for today. Ashley drove without any incident. Then we went to Sam's, Ashley did not drive there. She is a bit nervous about busy streets. After Sam's we dropped off the cold food at home and Ashley drove over to Hy-Vee so we could finish our shopping.

Before supper I watered the garden and picked 3 more strawberries. I got five strawberries on Friday. Oh so juicey.

Friday Update

Look out on the road this morning between 9:30 and 10:30, Ashley will be driving in drivers ed. I hope she remembers which pedal is the gas and brake.

The garden is coming along nicely. We will have three or four strawberries ready for picking today. The pumpkins I planted from seed are coming up. Hopefully we will get more than one or two this year. Love the pumpkin soup!

Doug has a busy day. He has to take Chloe to work. Then he has to take Thomas to drop off his car at 5 Seasons Tire for some work and take him over to Mary's to mow. At least he will get to visit with Mary for a little bit. Then he has to go home and take Ashley to work at noon. After a few hours to relax, hopefully, he will have to go pick up Chloe and Ashley from work. Wow, what a wonderful Dad! What do you kids think?

Monday Update

Here I am setting at Ashley's computer, because I don't want to disturb the girls sleeping in the living room. Ashley's computer is very slow. It took a very long time to check just a few emails.

Yesterday was Doug's birthday. The food was very good and I think he had a lot of fun. He got some funny cards and a table we can use on Sunday's from Wanda and Deb. And Mark gave us some more yummy mushrooms and the famous squash seeds.

I really can't think of much to say this morning, so I guess I will get ready for work.

Saturday Update

Yesterday was kind of busy for me. I had the day off from work and had intended to go to Mercy care early in the day to have my lumpy ear looked at. Abot 7:45 Peggy from Hy-Vee called and asked if Ashley would be available to work around 11. So then I knew I would have to wait until later to go to Mercy Care.

I took Ashley to work and then went to Goodwill to try and find some jeans. I purchased 1 pair of jeans, 2 blouses, a long sleeved shirt, a mixing bowl with the multi -colored swirls as seen on 30-Minute Meals, a $2.38 Corona typwriter for Ashley and a Stephen Ambrose book "Citizen Soldiers" for Doug. After Goodwill, I went back to Hy-Vee to do some shopping. Then I went home to put the groceries away and ate two pieces of pizza before going to Mercy Care. That was a waste of two hours. They had an intern look at my ear for about 3 seconds. She told me none of the doctors there would touch it. I know it is gross, but come on! Now I have to wait until July 21 to have it removed by a dermatologist. When I got home, Thomas, Chloe and I went to Target and bought Doug's birthday gift. It is a Uniden two handset 5.8 Gegahertz phone system. I can write about it here on the day before his birthday, because the kids and I could not wait and gave it to him last night. He was very happy and surprised.

This is getting rather long, so I will wrap it up. Today I plan on defrosting freezers, helping Doug prep for the Sunday meal and clean Thumper's smelly tank.

Yeah! Today is my Friday. At work anyway. The last two days have been fairly busy at work, so I hope today goes fast as well.

I finally planted some petunias in the front yard garden box. I think they look nice. Hopefully Ashley will take some pictures that I can post soon. Doug, with a little help from Thomas, put the thermometer on the side of the garage. It will be nice to know how hot it is when working in the garden or just entertaining outside.

Doug is going to make chicken curry tonight for dinner. I can't wait.
