Wednesday Update

It is bagel day at work. I hope they are fresh and I hope there will be knives to cut them. The OT is slowing down, but it is always good while it lasts.

We have been mostly eating Sunday leftovers this week. They are all very yummy. Doug and Thomas have decided that Wanda's Broc-Cauli Salad is the best and freshest tasting vegetable salad ever. Doug finally got his car speakers yesterday. I can't wait until he has them installed and we can cruise in cool pleasure, rocking out in Gordon.

Sunday Update

I feel that I have gotten a lot accomplished this weekend. Doug and I went grocery shopping after dropping Ashley off at work yesterday. We went to Hy Vee, Fareway and Sam's. When we got home I picked a bunch of vegetables from the garden. Tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplant, green peppers and green beans. There was a sink full of dishes to wash and then I cleaned out a very messy closet. I also washed quite a few loads of laundry. I chopped the eggplant to seat it for later when we made Ratatouli (sp?). After Ashley got home from work we started making supper, Thomas helped quite a bit with this. Supper involved chopping lots of vegetables. Doug did most of the chopping; peppers, onions and tomatoes. However, there were all the tomatoes gathered this week that needed to be blanched and chopped. I blanched the tomatoes, Thomas and I peeled and de-seeded the tomatoes and Doug chopped enough tomatoes to put in the salsa jar. After so much chopping Doug needed a break. I finished chopping the rest of the tomatoes needed for supper and for use today. I almost forgot, we also baked potatoes while we were preparing supper. The potatoes are for the potato skins we are making today. Needless to say everything took awhile and we did not actually eat supper until about 9:45. It was very delicious and well worth the wait!

Friday Update

Because I have nothing much to talk about, I will tell you about some of the things that I have seen on my way to and from work this week. On Tuesday I saw a hot air balloon being prepared for take off in the field at the intersection of the by-pass (HaHa). That same morning I saw two deer watching cars go by from someones yard on Mt Vernon Rd. Yesterday morning I saw about 5 turkeys on the side of the road on East Post on the curve before the creek. Right after that I saw possum road kill. On my way home yesterday I saw 2 young deer watching cars from behind a fence on East Post just before the stop light at the top of the hill. And then I saw a fire truck in Marion in front of the apartments next to Tastee Freeze. There was no fire and I did not see the firemen. I know this was not exciting, but it was something to write about.

Thursday Update

So it is finally Thursday. Yesterday when I woke up I thoought it was Thursday, I was disappointed when I realized it was only Wednesday. Today is the first day this week that I do not have OT.

Last night we had another wonderful supper by Doug. Oven fried chicken (yum), garden green beans (yum) and mashed potatoes with gravy (yum, yum). Doug said he always has to serve Thomas some of his favorites before going off to school.

Well, I can't think of anything else right now. I hope everyone is having a good week.

Wednesday Update

Sorry I have not updated in a few days. Working OT you know.

Last night we had some really yummy fried rice. I almost thought there would be no leftovers. After supper we took a little drive in Gordon to the library and checked out a stack of books. We then went to Kinkos. When we got home I finished reading Last Chance to See. This is a must read book for everyone.

Monday Update

It's going to be another day of OT. This is a good thing, although it makes for a long tiring day.

Yesterday Willy showed up even though we had canceled the Sunday get together. He stayed for a beer and chatted with Doug for a little bit. For supper we had the best ever potato skins. Thomas helped make supper for the second day in a row. We watched The Aviator last night. I always knew Howard Hughes was crazy, but I did not know he was that crazy.

Sunday Update

Not much to say again today. Doug and Ashley helped me wash the van yesterday. I think I would have died if I did not have some help with it. It wasn't really that hot yesterday, but I was really over heating. The van is nice and shiny now.

Thomas made really yummy stuffed peppers for supper last night. Of course he was following instructions given to him by Doug. Doug was busy chopping tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, cilantro and stuff to put in our jar of salsa. The jar is now full, because we had a lot of tomatoes from the garden.

We watched the movie National Treasure last night. It was a fun movie, the good guys found the treasure and the bad guys went to jail.

Tomorrow school starts and the girls will be one day closer to graduation. It makes me feel so old to think all of my kids will soon be out of high school and in college.

Friday Update

I'm glad that it is Friday. This weekend I really need to wash and wax the van. Maybe I can recruit Ashley to help me. I also need to clean out the microwave. Good times.

Speaking of good times, this week at work I have mostly been helping the Data Entry Department with entering check and credit card orders. Today the Marketing Department also needs my assistance.

Last night we had the most delicious Quiche for supper. After supper we prepared cucumbers for making Bread & Mustard Pickles. They have to soak in ice overnight. The Bread & Mustard are my favorite pickles. I guess this means that I will also be helping to can pickles this weekend.

The kids are gearing up for the new school year. I think they are actually looking forward to it in a way. This is Chloe and Ashley's Senior year. Very exciting. And Thomas gets to go to New York during his May term.

Tuesday Update

Yesterday was one of the busiest days we have had at work in a long time. They even asked us to work OT (Old Tony is back). The only thing is, the last 35 minutes most of us sat there waiting for calls that did not come in. Diane finally asked us to leave at 4:45, because is was sort of silly paying OT for us to do nothing. I am going in at 7 this morning to help Data Entry put in check orders that were mailed in.

On another note Doug has a bright new beautiful smile. Just ask him to show you. Well I have to get ready for work now.

Last night we mostly watched The Tube. It just shows music videos all of the time. It was like a jump back in time while watching most of them. I don't have much else to say. I think I will try to finish reading The Gateway Trip book today.

I don't really have much to say. We got a lot of rain yesterday. I didn't have to water the garden at all yesterday. Yesterday at work I mostly entered marketing campaigns that will be sent to customers next week. I now have a Clutch sticker in my cubicle at work. I'm sure no one else at work knows who Clutch is.

Wednesday Update

Yesterday was a good day. It wasn't very busy at work. And because we have four new temps on the phones, we are the last ones taking calls. I probably had less than 15 calls yesterday. The only thing is when it is slow like that, it is hard to keep looking busy.

Doug was very busy yesterday. He started out by driving me to work, he then stopped to get the oil changed in Gordon". While waiting for the call that the alternator for "Puck" was ready, he got a replacement bulb for "Gordon". He got the alternator in "Puck" in time to pick me up at work. After we got home and had supper, we decided to go shopping for car speakers for "Gordon". We realized that a headlight was out on "Puck" and had to pick up a replacement and Doug changed the bulb right in the parking lot at Advanced Auto. We did not find any acceptable speakers in town, so we came home and Doug ordered some on the internet. I hope he doesn't have to wait too long for them, because he really deserves them after all he has been doing the past several weeks.

Tuesday Update

Yesterday was a very easy day at work. All that I did was listen to one of the new temps talk on the phone with customers and I coached him on what to say for customer service issues.

I am so excited, I will probably get the van back today. It will be nice to be able to drive myself to and from work again. Although it has been awfully nice having Doug to talk to in the mornings.

Sunday Update

This morning I need to go out and put some bug killer on the garden. Damn bigs are taking over the world. Today should be fairly easy, we are having Sloppy Joes. Yesterday was another quiet day. Chloe went to work from 10-3, Ashley worked 2-9 and Thomas worked 4-9:30. When Chloe got home she went for a walked and called before returning to say she was almost home and could she go to the mall with Anna. Later in the evening she called again and asked to spend the night at Anna's. Needless to say we did not she much of Chloe on Saturday.

Doug and I made Stuffed Garden Tomatoes for supper. They were very good and because we got a late start in making them, they were ready just in time for Ashley when she got home. We watched The Village, it was kind of confusing at first, but the story came around and made sense in the end. It was nothing like I thought it would be.

Friday Update

I only have a half day of work today. I can't wait until noon. Poor Doug has been so busy this week. He takes me to work every morning because of the van being on the fritz and he drives Ashley to and from work in the evenings. On Tuesday morning he took Ashley to visit Cornell College, on Tuesday night he went to Iowa City with Thomas to Gabes to see Clutch. On Wednesday morning he picked up Brian before he took me to work, because Brian was dropping his car off for some work. Today he will take me to work, take the kids to the eye doctor, pick me up at noon and then take Ashley and I to Mt Mercy at 1:30 for another college visit.

Yesterday was a good day for the kids. Ashley got her wonderful MP3 player and Thomas got his laptop. It doesn't get better than that.

This weekend (5th & 6th) is Iowa tax free shopping. Hopefully we will be able to take Ashley to do the school shopping she wants to do.

Thursday Update

Yesterday was a bad day for me. It started when I woke up about a half hour later than I normally do. I had turned off the alarm and went back to sleep. I did it again this morning, except I had forgotten to even set my alarm. Then I went to the computer to do my usual morning thing of checking my email and updating this blog. Except I couldn't because the cable was down and when I turned on the TV, the cable TV was down as well, the picture on every channel was fuzzy. This threw a wrench in my morning. Then when I got to work Oracle went down about five times. When Oracle is down it is impossible to look at customer accounts or enter orders. The orders have to be written on paper and entered in later. And the already upset customers are even angrier when you tell them you cannot look at the status of thier order.

Things got much better after I got home. Doug made a delicious supper of Black Beans and Rice. I would have had seconds except that I knew Ashley and Thomas would be hungry when they got home from work. So, instead I took some leftover rice and added cheese. Mao wanted to share it with me and he really liked it, I'm not sure if it was the rice or the cheese that he liked so much.

We watched a show about Rock and Roll. It was pretty good, except some of the new bands (Third Eye Blind, Kid Rock, etc) doing covers sort of sucked.

I thought I wasn't going to be able to get online this morning. But all is good now.

Today is a very busy day for Doug. First he has to take me to work and then he is driving Ashley to Cornell, she has to be there at 9. He then has to pick me up after work. And who knows what else he will end up having to do in between.

Monday Update

Yesterday was great. We did not have a lot to do for preparation yesterday, so I was able to get a lot done. I washed dishes from last night in the morning and then I helped Doug with blanching the tomatoes. He sliced the tomatoes and made a large batch of salsa. We served some with the brats and everyone loved it. In the afternoon I cleaned Thumper's tank and planted the free plants from Hy Vee in the flower beds.

We had a bigger turn out than we had expected, with suprise guest Willy and the whole Jordan clan. The brats Deb brought were excellent, as well as the salads, dip and desserts. It was a very good day.

Sunday Update

Yesterday was another quiet day. No kids here until after 6 and then it was just Ashley. Deb stopped by in the afternoon to drop off the brats for today. After she left, Doug and I went to Sam's to pick up a couple of things. Then we picked up Ashley at work and did a little grocery shopping. As we were leaving Hy Vee we picked up some free plants that they had outside the store.

For supper we had the most wonderful Eggplant Parmesan (made by Doug of course). After supper I made the Potato Salad for today. Both Doug and I were in bed by 10:30.

Saturday Update

I decided it was time for a different look on my blog. Let me know what you think of it.

It was very quiet last night. Doug, Chloe and I had frozen pizzas for supper. Then Doug drove Chloe to her Mother's house around 7:30 and then he picked up Ashley from work. Thomas left about 6:00 to drive up to Waterloo for the weekend. Today Ashley works from 10-6, so with the other two kids gone ,we will have the house to ourselves once again. I guess I just need to get use to this.

I plan to cut up tomatoes and start a jar of salsa today. Now I just need to get tortillas and cheese. I will also make the potato salad for tomorrows gathering.

Friday Update

Yeah Friday!! Not much to report today. Yesterday work went really slow. I think because I had a headache all day and people were being poopie.

Things got better when I got home. Thomas drove me to the store to pick up a few things. When we returned Doug made supper which was wonderful. Sausage and egg sandwiches and Blt's. Not much else happened, I planted myself on the couch and looked through a magazine while sort of watching television.

There is not much to update about today. Yesterday it rained and that is good for our garden. If it is nice after work I will probably go out and pick tomatoes. Yesterday was pretty uneventful. When I got home yesterday, I had to laugh at Mao, he was all covered up with a linen towel and had his paw covering his face. Chloe had her first real work day at Hot Topic, she seems to like it so far. Well I'm sure this is just boring everyone now, so I will stop here.

Tuesday Update

The first day back to work started out pretty bad. I couldn't sell anything. Then I had a lady yelling at me and asking to talk to a supervisor. I can usually calm these people down and not transfer to the supervisor. But this lady would not listen to me. After lunch I was able to sell again and all was well. Today we have visitors in the building, so we have to wear dressier clothes.

We canned our first batch of pickles last night, 7 1/2 quarts. Tonight we will probably have to start making salsa with the tomatoes.

Sunday Update

I'm sad, tomorrow I have to go back to work. Hopefully it will be busy and the week will go by fast. Speaking of work, Chloe got hired at the mystery job. It is no mystery anymore because Chloe has announced it in her blog. Chloe will be working at Hot Topic, her dream job.

Lance has won the Tour de France and is riding in the final stage as I type. He has not yet been handed the champagne. He is just riding leasurely and talking to other riders and the guys in the Discovery car. He has just been handed the glass of champagne. I think I will wrap this up and watch the end of the Tour a little closer now.
